SCR Component Analyzer

SCR Component Analyzer

SCR Component Analyzer allows a competent Electronics Technician to confirm the switching capability of SCR's (Silicon Controlled Rectifier) through a simple out-of-circuit test process. By pressing the Test button on the SCR Component Analyzer an internal microprocessor runs a clever algorithm to determine the lead configuration of the DUT (Device-Under-Test). The Component Analyzers Anode, Cathode and Gate display LED's are color coded to reflect the Test lead configuration. The DUT is then tested, and the status of the component is displayed on the Result LED. A Red colored Result LED indicates a Short Circuit condition, Blue indicates an Open Circuit or Unknown condition, and Green indicates a good device.

Specifications:

  • Single button determination of Component Test Lead configuration, and testing of SCR's.
  • Will test all known SCR types: 100mA to 150 Amp TO-92, Metal Stud, Hockey Puck packages and more.
  • 4 RGB Full Color LED's simplify determination of Test Lead configuration, and Test Result.
  • 9 VDC battery operation.
  • Average Battery current less than 30mA.
  • Auto shutdown after 3 minutes to conserve Battery life.
  • Light, easy to handle, ergonomic enclosure. Dimensions of 5.8" x 3.5" x 0.7".
  • 24" Professional Test Leads with Alligator clips (Red, Green and Blue).
  • PCB based design with a hybrid architecture utilizing SMT, and Through Hole components.

Functional Test Procedure :

  1. Install a 9 Volt Battery (not included).
  2. Attach the Test Leads to the SCR Component Analyzer.
  3. Ensure that the component to be tested is not connected to any Electrical circuit. If so, safely remove the device from the circuit.
  4. Press the RED Test Button. The Test Result LED will turn Blue confirming an initial unknown state.
  5. Connect the Test Leads to the SCR. The leads can be connected in any random fashion.
  6. Press the RED Test Button. If the SCR is functional, the Test Result LED will turn Green. The Lead configuration LED's will display the appropriate color for each Test lead.
  7. If the SCR lead configuration can not be determined or if the Anode/Cathode terminals are Open Circuit then the Test Result LED will turn Blue.
  8. If the SCR has an internal Short Circuit then the Test Result LED will turn Red.
  9. To turn the SCR Component Analyzer off, hold down the RED Test Button for 5 seconds. This will cause the Test Result LED to turn Red, and for the unit to power down.

Tips for First Time use

  • Always use an Alkaline Battery (Energiser or Duracell). Nicads have a lower terminal voltage (typically 7.2V) which can reduce performance when testing high current Hockey Puck devices.
  • Be sure of the Specifications of your SCR before testing. Check the Manufacturers Datasheet if you are unsure.
  • Testing a High Current SCR with a current rating above 150 Amps will cause the Test Result LED to stay Blue.
  • A Blue Test Result LED indicates an unknown condition.

SCR Component Analyze are not designed to be connected to any external AC or DC voltages. They are only suitable for testing components out-of-circuit. This means that the IGBT, MOSFET or SCR being tested is only electrically connected to our product. For your safety, please adhere to this warning. The appropriateness of our products for a specific purpose or end user is to be determined by the purchaser.
